Airports

Milan is the best served Italian city in terms of airports, with 3 international hubs within 35 miles.

Malpensa airport

Malpensa is the main airport, where you are likely to land if travelling Intercontinental.

There are several options for airport transfers from Malpensa airport, depending on your budget and needs:

  • By taxi or chauffeur
  • By train
  • By bus
  • Rent a car
Airport transfers by taxi or chauffeur

White taxis can be found at the taxi stand, outside the arrivals terminal. If you decide to take one of these taxis, make sure  it has a windscreen sticker displaying: “Taxi autorizzato per il servizio aeroportuale lombardo”.

These taxis will charge you on a meter adjusted for the route and you should make sure to check the fare displayed on the meter at arrival, as that is the total amount you should be asked to pay.  One thing to consider is that airport taxi’s are only permitted to take a maximum of 4 people.

Expect to pay a fare around 90-100 euro to travel between airport and city center and be aware that most drivers will ask for cash payments (often with the excuse of a faulty card machine).

If you want to avoid any kind of hassle, then choose Classgo, the best chauffeur & private driver service. With ClassGo you can easily book online [https://classgo.com/book-now/] with state of the art technology and pay securely, using your credit card.

Your driver will be waiting for you at the airport arrivals, with a sign with your name on it.

For a transfer to / from  Milan center the average price is 90euro, and you will be picked up an Audi a4 or similar and be able to enjoy free in-car wifi and other comforts.

Trains to / from Malpensa

A cheaper option is travelling via Malpensa Express, that links the airport with the city centre.

There are several trains every day, with one way tickets costing around 13euro. Consider that once you arrive at Stazione Centrale you will need to continue your journey via taxi or public transport.

If your accommodation is not central and/or you arrive at peak traffic times, this might result in a rather long and winded journey.

Malpensa to Milano Centrale Last/First train time: 01:51 / 05:37
Milano Centrale to Malpensa Last/First train time: 23:52 / 05:25
Bus to / from Malpensa

There are several coach options that connect Malpensa to Milan Central Station, Fiera Milano City/Fiera Rho Pero and Linate airport. See the airport information for a comprehensive list http://www.milanomalpensa-airport.com/en/directions-and-parking/by-coach

Rent a car

A range of car rental services are available at the airport. If you decide to drive yourself, remember that to hire a car in Italy, you must be at least 18 and have held your license for 1 year and drivers under 25 may incur a “young driver surcharge”. As per many other countries an International Driver License is recommended. Other things to consider are that most Italian highways require you to pay a toll and some areas of Milan City center are subject to the so-called ZTL (Restricted traffic zone).

Parking in the city (as per the majority of Italian cities) can also be quite a hectic experience. Overall renting a car might be a good option if travelling to other parts of Italy, whilst staying away from city centers.
